In previous years, the Appalachian Queer Film Festival was held in Lewisburg, WV with additional screenings in Charleston and Morgantown but this year it will have a new home in Huntington. The screenings will be held October 6-8th at the Foundry Theater located inside of City Hall.
The AQFF will accept “films that contain Queer and/or Trans content or have a Queer and/trans writer, director, or producer. [They] love films that have rural settings, especially Appalachian settings, but that is not a requirement.”
Film categories will include Narrative Short, Documentary Short, Feature Film, Arthouse/Experimental Short, Feature Documentary, and Student Short. Twenty-five films will be accepted in the festival with twelve awards granted with categories including Best Short Film, Best Feature Film, Best Acting in a Short, Best Acting in a Feature, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound Design, Best Production Design, Best Composer, Best Director, and Best Producer.
The regular submission deadline is April 1 with a standard entry fee of $15 or $10 for students. The final extended deadline is June 15 with fees increased to $30 standard entry or $25 for students. The final films selected for screening at the festival will be notified August 1.
