Huntington, WV – Legendary Marshall University basketball coach Dan D’Antoni today announced his endorsement of Chris Miller for Governor of West Virginia. A native West Virginian and Marshall University Athletics Hall of Famer, D’Antoni expressed unwavering confidence in Miller’s ability to lead the state toward a brighter future.
“Chris Miller embodies the spirit of West Virginia and its potential for greatness,” said D’Antoni. “His vision for our state is a fast break to a brighter future, one where our kids and grandkids can stay here and thrive. I’ve known Chris and his family for over fifty years. With his business acumen and tireless dedication, he’ll be West Virginia’s Greatest Promoter and take advantage of our state’s true potential.”
D’Antoni’s endorsement comes after his illustrious tenure with Marshall. After played four seasons for the Thundering Herd, leading in scoring in 1968-69, D’antoni returned as head coach in 2014. Over the course of his 10 seasons at the helm, he led Marshall to 177 wins, the second-most in school history. Under D’antoni, Marshall made a memorable run in the 2018 NCAA tournament – the school’s first tournament appearance since 1987 – and set a school record for regular season wins just a year ago.
“I am deeply honored to have Coach Dan D’Antoni’s endorsement,” said Miller. “His dedication to West Virginia and his profound impact on the Marshall community exemplify the kind of leadership we need to move West Virginia forward. Coach D’Antoni knows that our state’s future depends on unleashing our economy and taking on the entrenched special interests in Charleston, and I am proud to have him on our team.”
