WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) announced the nomination of seven West Virginia students to U.S. military service academies.

“I am excited to nominate these excellent and outstanding West Virginia students to our nation’s service academies,” said Congresswoman Miller. “These students demonstrated a strong desire to serve in the most powerful military in the world and protect the United States from foreign adversaries. I am grateful for their future service to our nation and wish them all the best.”

While a congressional nomination is required to apply, it does not guarantee admission. Students will be notified individually if they are granted admission to one of the service academies.

The nominated students are as follows:

James Monroe High School
Nomination: United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy

Preston High School/ Mountaineer Challenge Academy

Zachary Giertz
Hurricane High School
Nomination: United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy

Olivia Honaker
Oak Hill High School
Nomination: United States Air Force Academy and the United States Military Academy

Josiah Richardson
West Virginia University
Nomination: United States Military Academy

Christien Saunders
Huntington High School
United States Air Force Academy and the United States Naval Academy

Iris Shy
Spring Valley High School
United States Naval Academy and the United States Air Force Academy
