Featured non-conference home games include Notre Dame and Purdue

The first year of the Morgan Zerkle era will see plenty of excitement at the renovated Dot Hicks Field with games against Notre Dame and Purdue highlighting the 2024 home schedule.

Marshall will host 23 games – including two early-season invitationals – with visits from Butler and Purdue the first weekend of March, and the second weekend featuring the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The challenging slate will also include non-conference opponents such as Arkansas, Michigan State and Penn State in Florida to open the year. The Herd later travels to Tucson, Arizona, for a tournament in which they face the Arizona Wildcats and former MUSB Head Coach Shonda Stanton’s Indiana Hoosiers. A pair of mid-week contests against Kentucky and Virginia Tech also are part of the 2024 slate.

“I look forward to seeing Herd softball rise to the challenge that this year’s schedule presents,” Zerkle said. “We play several Top 50 RPI teams out of conference like Arkansas, VT, Kentucky, Indiana, Penn State, Notre Dame, and Arizona that I believe will help prepare us. Last year, in just year one in the Sun Belt, Marshall had an amazing season. In year two, why not try to win it?”

The team’s second Sun Belt Conference season includes home weekend series with App State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern and ULM. Marshall will travel for weekend sets at Georgia State, JMU, Southern Miss, and Texas State.

The 2024 Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship will be May 7-11 from San Marcos, Texas.
