PRE-GAME NOTES

Saturday’s game theme is “We Are … Playing for the ’75′” in honor of the 75 persons lost in the plane crash of Southern Airways Flight 932 on Nov. 14, 1970. Each year, the game closest to that date is considered as the ‘Tribute’ game for those individuals and for the Marshall community.

That fateful event which happened 53 years ago is still considered as the worst sports-related air tragedy in history, but Marshall rose from that tragedy to become a I-AA powerhouse and National Champion before ascending to the Division I ranks where the program now competes in the Sun Belt Conference.

ABOUT MARSHALL

Marshall comes into this weekend’s contest following a 31-9 loss at App State.

In the contest, Marshall tight end Sean Sallis made his first reception with the Herd in the first half, then followed it up with the first touchdown catch of his career in the third quarter on a 10-yard pass from quarterback Cam Fancher.

Defensively, J.J. Roberts returned to the lineup after missing a game and finished the App State contest with 15 tackles, which matched his career high. Roberts currently leads Marshall with 62 tackles on the year.

The Thundering Herd is looking to get back to .500 on the season with a win, which would also put the team one win away from bowl eligibility.

His favorite target is electric wide receiver and return specialist Khaleb Hood, who has caught 73 passes for 748 yards with four touchdowns while also returning 12 punts for 122 yards with a score.

Defensively, the Eagles are led by linebacker Marques Watson-Trent, who has 93 tackles, including 10.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
