At the annual City Budget address Monday, Huntington Mayor Steve Williams highlighted a new broadband internet deployment plan. “Our unique design is to deploy optic fiber so every house and business in the City will have access to high-speed broadband. We have no desire to be in the internet business, there are many carriers more capable of providing the service. Our intention is to deploy 190 miles of fiber to every home and business in the City.” Residents and businesses will then select from competing carriers, Williams said. Seven million dollars in Federal grant funding will kickstart what is estimated to be a sixteen million dollar city-wide fiber optic internet broadband utility installation project throughout the city of Huntington, West Virginia.
