huntington pride picnic 2023 west virginia pride month

The Ritter Park amphitheater was washed in rainbows Saturday June 10, 2023 as drag artists danced across the stage for the annual Huntington Pride: Drag Me to Brunch Picnic. The outdoor drag show featured performances from 30 drag artists as well as vendors, and community aid organizations.

The Drag Me to Brunch Picnic is a family friendly event where community members of any age can come and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community. Both local and out town performers took the stage to entertain a large and enthusiastic crowd sporting their favorite pride gear. In addition to performances from crowd favorites, attendees were also treated to a lip sync battle royale for new performers set to classic songs by Tina Turner.

The picnic is the biggest fundraising event for the Huntington Pride Festival which takes place in the heart of Huntington’s downtown. Community members interested in getting involved in the planning of the festival were invited by Huntington Pride president, Ally Laman, to join her and other members of the organization for a Huntington Pride public meeting at picnic shelter 1 in Ritter Park on Monday June 19, 2023 from 6pm-7pm.

Drag shows like these are more important than ever with the current social and political climate surrounding the drag and trans communities. Huntingtonians sent a clear message that LGBTQIA+ people are welcomed and celebrated in our city.
