In the words of Norm Macdonald, “all the stars are here!”
Huntington News Network correspondent Neera Burner attended HMA’s Fundraiser Ball last Saturday, which has been on a three-year hiatus since COVID-19 put the world on pause and brought everyone’s plans to a standstill.
“What are you most looking forward to at the ball?” Neera would ask attendees as they filed in, dressed as if the event were a Hollywood red carpet.
The most common response was “I’m excited to get back to the ball after three years.” However, some attendees had more specific reasoning:
“To be around people after Covid.”
“To party hearty, buddy!”
“I have a painting set to be auctioned off for charity.”
“I’m just excited for a kid-less night.”
“I want to dance!”
“I’m looking forward to the bourbon!”
Though there were many sights to behold, the most elegant centerpiece was undoubtedly the dessert area, which lined a chamber of sparkling glassworks blown in Appalachia.
Pear tarts, mini layer cakes, fresh strawberries with yogurt, and vanilla frosting-glazed donuts greeted partygoers to the left. To the right, an army of fizzing flute glasses complemented the main attraction: a gold reservoir fountaining champagne from all sides.
After dessert, guests were treated to music, dancing, and merriment until 11 o’clock in the evening when the ball finally drew to a close.
Though many were saddened by the night’s end, the long awaited return of HMA’s Fundraiser Ball restored hope in the hearts of those eager to gather in extravagant celebration with family and friends once again, “At Last”.
