Marshall University has announced the launch of its innovative Pilot Vendor Registration and Certification Program, a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the economic impact of small and diverse businesses in the region. Developed under the guidance of Marshall’s Small and Diverse Business Program, this program seeks to increase purchases from women-owned, minority-owned, disabled-owned, and veteran-owned enterprises.

As part of this initiative, Marshall’s Office of Purchasing has introduced a vendor registration form. This form serves as a pivotal tool in broadening the participation of local vendors in the university’s bid notification processes. By allowing firms to certify their status, including small, for-profit businesses based on U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) standards, Marshall University aims to create a more inclusive and thriving business ecosystem.

The eligibility criteria for small businesses, as outlined by the SBA, include all non-agricultural firms with fewer than 100 employees and less than $8 million in revenue. Through this program, Marshall University is committed to fostering partnerships with businesses that meet these standards, thereby promoting diversity and economic resilience within the community.

In an effort to ensure the active involvement of existing MU vendors, they are encouraged to complete the Marshall University Vendor Registration Form. The information gathered will be utilized to provide service-specific details about upcoming bidding opportunities. This phase of the program is slated to commence in 2024, offering existing vendors a chance to align with the university’s commitment to supporting small and diverse enterprises.

The program is the result of a mandate by the West Virginia Legislature. The utilization of the registration and certification form will be obligatory for all Marshall vendors following the successful completion of the pilot phase.
