The weekend of February 9 through 11 saw three powerhouses of the folk/alternative genre play to their respective fanbases. Friday, February 10th featured headliner Sam Burchfield and the Scoundrels. Opener Corey Zornes of Massing fame sang his heart out, accompanied by trumpet from Heath Holley (also of Massing).
Sam Burchfield inhabited the stage like a comfortable home; his lyrics pay homage to the warmth of Appalachia, which inescapably lingers in the heart and mind of every native mountain dweller. Burchfield invites this audience to be introspective, breathe deeply, take in the sunlight, and unitedly recognize a perfect miracle: the opportunity to live.
Sam Burchfield’s tour continues through February and March with upcoming dates in Blacksburg, Harrisonburg, and Charlottesville, Virginia.
