WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center recently took time to recognize its hardworking clinical teams for earning national recognition in healthcare quality and patient outcomes.

As part of National Hospital Week, which ran from May 11–17, the hospital celebrated a series of prestigious achievements that place it among the top-performing medical centers in the nation.

The highlight of the week was a special event on Wednesday, where hospital leadership acknowledged the many national accolades the facility has earned. The celebration also included the unveiling of a new awards display case in the hospital’s North Tower, showcasing the awards and recognitions received over the past year.

“This is an opportunity for us to celebrate our physicians, providers, nurses, and support staff and the exceptional care they provide,” said Martha Dawson, vice president of quality and patient safety and chief quality officer.

“The collaboration among our teams across different specialties is what allows us to deliver top-tier care that matches hospitals anywhere in the country.”

One of the standout accomplishments was Camden Clark being named among America’s 250 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades for the third consecutive year. This distinction places the hospital in the top 5% of medical centers nationwide based on overall clinical performance.

The recognitions reflect a commitment to continuous improvement and patient-centered care. Camden Clark has also earned awards from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, CareChex, the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, U.S. News & World Report, Castle Connolly, and other Healthgrades specialty awards.

Dr. Shari Vance, vice president and chief medical officer, emphasized the teamwork behind the success. “Our clinical teams work together across the care continuum—from hospitalists to primary care providers and specialists—to ensure that every patient receives the best care. That effort is reflected in the awards we’ve earned, and we’re proud to continue offering exceptional service to our community.”

Among the top awards and recognitions received are:

  • No. 1 in West Virginia for Pulmonary Care and Cardiology in 2025 by Healthgrades
  • Five-star recipient for heart attack care (two years running) and heart failure care (eight consecutive years)
  • HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence from the American College of Cardiology (five years in a row)
  • High Performing Hospital for Heart Failure and COPD by U.S. News & World Report for 8 and 7 years respectively
  • High Performing in Maternity Care (2025) by U.S. News & World Report
  • Stroke Gold Plus Award from the American Heart Association for three consecutive years
  • Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award for two years running

“These recognitions are more than just plaques on a wall,” said Dawson. “They are proof that the care we provide in Parkersburg stands up to national standards. Whether it’s emergency care, chronic illness treatment, or maternity care, our staff is delivering results on par with the best hospitals in the country.”

WVU Medicine Camden Clark’s achievements highlight a steadfast dedication to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to the Mid-Ohio Valley region. The Hospital Week celebration served as a meaningful reminder of the hard work, expertise, and compassion that define the Camden Clark team’s mission every day.
