As the college baseball season winds down, the transfer portal is quickly heating up — and West Virginia is right in the thick of the action. The Mountaineers are both gaining and losing talent as players explore new opportunities, and the coaching staff works to reshape the roster for 2025.

Here’s a look at who’s coming to Morgantown and who’s moving on.

🚨 Transfers Coming to WVU

Matt Ineich – INF (from Ohio)

A standout freshman at Ohio, Ineich hit an impressive .387 with 3 home runs and 25 RBIs across 36 games — all starts. The Michigan native struck out just 11 times all season and finished second in the MAC in batting average. His on-base percentage of .467 made him one of the toughest outs in the conference. Ineich arrives with three years of eligibility remaining.

Owen Puk – RHP (from Florida International)

Puk, a redshirt junior, made 13 appearances for FIU, racking up 51 strikeouts in 40.1 innings. Opponents hit just .224 against him. Known for a fastball that hits the upper 90s, he finished the season with a 4-1 record and a 4.91 ERA. He’s also the brother of MLB pitcher AJ Puk.

Chansen Cole – RHP (from Newberry College)

Cole pitched nearly 90 innings for Division II Newberry College, tallying 97 strikeouts and only 21 walks. He had a standout 15-strikeout game in February and gave up just seven home runs all season. The freshman from South Carolina went at least 5.0 innings in all but one of his 14 starts.

Paul Schoenfeld – OF (from Colorado Mesa University)

Schoenfeld dominated at the D-II level, hitting .420 with 9 home runs, 19 stolen bases, and 55 RBIs in 56 starts. He had 94 hits on the season and only went hitless in four games. After starting at Butler Community College, he’s spent the past three years at Colorado Mesa, hitting over .400 the last two seasons.

🔁 Players Transferring Out of WVU

Spencer Barnett – INF
The Pittsburgh native started 28 games and hit .278 with four homers and 26 RBIs. Over his WVU career, he appeared in 91 games and covered multiple infield positions.

Chase Swain – UTL
Swain had a solid season at the plate, hitting .321 with 30 RBIs in 49 games (39 starts). Originally from Manhattan College, he became a key contributor in 2024.

Gavin Van Kempen – RHP
A weekend starter who appeared in 14 games (13 starts), Van Kempen posted a 6.13 ERA over 39.2 innings with 37 strikeouts. An injury cut his season short. He has one year of eligibility left.

Jorge Valdes – OF
Valdes saw action in 38 games, mainly off the bench, and hit .158 in 19 at-bats. He’s known for his speed and defense and appeared in two games during WVU’s regional run. A native of Canada, he entered the portal just before WVU’s Super Regional trip to LSU.

Michael Perazza – OF
A sophomore outfielder, Perazza hit .233 with one homer and five RBIs in 21 games. He also made 15 starts in 2023.

Alex Marot – INF/UTL
The Rhode Island native appeared in 17 games (six starts) and hit .273 with six RBIs. He redshirted in 2023.

Aiden Cody – RHP
Cody missed his freshman season due to surgery in February. The New Jersey product was once ranked as the 22nd-best player in the state by Perfect Game.

Carlos Caraballo – RHP
Caraballo didn’t pitch in his freshman season at WVU. A top-30 recruit in Pennsylvania’s 2024 class, he was highly rated entering college.

Joe Fredericks – LHP
Fredericks made 18 appearances in 2024 but only tossed 2.0 innings across four outings. He pitched 16 total innings in his Mountaineers career and still has two years of eligibility left.

Aidan Smith – RHP
Smith, a sophomore from Maryland, plans to enter the portal but isn’t officially listed yet. He has pitched in just four games over two seasons, including one in 2024.
