Thousands of West Virginia residents woke up without electricity on Thursday morning after a strong line of severe storms moved through the region overnight.
As of 10 a.m., Appalachian Power Company reported that nearly 9,000 customers were still without power. The outages began early Thursday and were slightly higher when the storms initially passed through the area.
The hardest-hit location was Putnam County, where about 2,100 customers lost service. Wayne County followed closely with roughly 1,700 outages.
Mon Power also faced widespread disruptions, reporting about 3,000 customers without power by late Thursday morning. The largest outages for Mon Power were seen in Upshur, Braxton, Ritchie, and Lewis counties.
Utility crews from both companies have been deployed and are working to assess the damage and restore service as quickly and safely as possible. However, restoration times may vary depending on the severity of the storm’s impact in each area.
Residents are urged to stay away from downed power lines and to report outages directly through utility websites or mobile apps. Emergency officials also remind people to check on neighbors, especially the elderly or those with medical needs, during extended outages.
