The transfer portal continues to reshape college football, and West Virginia is fully engaged in the action for the 2025 season.
As players explore new opportunities and schools seek to bolster their rosters, the Mountaineers have been active—adding new talent and experience to the program. While players entering the portal may not always leave, this tracker focuses on confirmed transfers to WVU, particularly scholarship athletes expected to contribute right away.
Here are the newest additions to the West Virginia football roster and what each brings to the team:
🔄 Transferred to West Virginia
🛡️ DB – Scruggs (South Alabama)
Scruggs committed to WVU over offers from Virginia Tech, Colorado, and UNLV. A versatile nickel back, he made 70 tackles and snagged one interception in 2024 with South Alabama.
His journey is a testament to perseverance—he began his college career at Washburn (no stats recorded), transferred to Central Missouri (37 tackles in 11 games), and then starred at Hutchinson C.C. (38 tackles, 1 interception).
Scruggs is a Missouri native with one year of eligibility left, and his experience across multiple levels should make him a key addition to the Mountaineers’ secondary.
⚡ WR – Singleton (Akron / Hutchinson C.C.)
Singleton brings speed and production to West Virginia’s wide receiver corps. He committed after an official campus visit, turning down other options.
In 2024, Singleton caught 64 passes for 639 yards and 2 touchdowns, while also adding 23 rushing yards.
Originally from Florida, he started at Akron and later transferred to Hutchinson Community College, where he continued to develop into a dynamic offensive threat. He has one year of eligibility remaining and should immediately compete for playing time.
💪 OL – Young Bear (Tulsa)
A proven veteran, Young Bear played in 32 games during his career at Tulsa and became a full-time starter at left guard in 2024, starting all 12 games.
He took over the starting role late in his sophomore year and never looked back, logging over 1,000 career snaps.
The Oklahoma native chose West Virginia over several other schools once he entered the portal. With one season of eligibility left, his experience and size are expected to provide immediate help in the trenches.
🔍 What These Transfers Mean for WVU
Each addition fills a critical gap on West Virginia’s 2025 roster:
- Scruggs brings stability and experience to the defensive backfield.
- Singleton offers a speedy, reliable target to stretch opposing defenses.
- Young Bear helps anchor an offensive line that needs both depth and leadership.
As the portal continues to evolve, more changes may come—but for now, these three add strong value as WVU prepares for a competitive season.
Stay tuned as we continue tracking all scholarship additions and their potential impact on the Mountaineers.
