Dear Friends and Fellow West Virginians,
In the age of instant information and viral headlines, rumors can spread quickly, and facts can be lost in the noise. That’s why I feel it’s important to speak directly to you—to set the record straight and reaffirm where I stand.
Let me be clear: I have not abandoned the Republican Party, nor have I walked away from the deeply held values that define who we are as West Virginians. I remain steadfast in my mission to serve the people of the 13th District and to protect the principles that make our communities strong, resilient, and proud.
Some recent social media posts and comments have attempted to misrepresent my record and motives, particularly around my vote on the repeal of the Certificate of Need (CON). I want you to hear the truth from me—not from out-of-state groups or political operatives with their own agendas.
My vote against the repeal of the CON was not a political stunt—it was a decision rooted in protecting healthcare access in our rural communities. For those unfamiliar, the Certificate of Need system helps manage the availability of hospital services across West Virginia.
While reform is necessary, a full repeal without a strategic plan could have severely damaged the stability of our local hospitals. It could have led to facility closures, job losses, and limited access to critical care for our families and neighbors.
I have always and will continue to advocate for healthcare policies that serve the people—not the profit margins of outside interests. I support our local hospitals and the dedicated healthcare professionals who show up every day to care for us. Preserving and improving rural healthcare is not just smart policy—it’s a moral obligation.
On the topic of vaccine freedom, let me be equally clear. I support the right of individuals to make personal medical decisions. However, I also believe in responsible, balanced public health policies.
We must protect personal freedom without opening the door to preventable disease outbreaks or putting our most vulnerable at risk. That’s not government overreach—that’s common sense.
I am aware that some organizations, such as the American Action Fund, have been spreading misinformation about my voting record. These groups are not based in West Virginia, and they don’t understand the needs of our people.
I will not allow their political spin to overshadow the truth. My focus remains on strengthening public safety, investing in law enforcement, and supporting our communities—all without raising taxes.
To those spreading falsehoods: I won’t be intimidated. I answer only to the people of West Virginia—not to special interests, internet trolls, or political hit squads.
I was elected to serve with integrity, and that’s exactly what I’ve done and will continue to do. My commitment is to you—the hardworking men and women of West Virginia. Thank you for the honor of allowing me to serve. Together, we’ll continue to move our great state forward.
Sincerely,
Del. Scot Heckert
