The American Red Cross has opened service centers in Ohio and Marion counties to provide urgent recovery support for residents affected by devastating flash floods earlier this month.
At least eight people lost their lives in Ohio County during the severe storms and flooding that hit the area the weekend of June 14, with hundreds of properties damaged or destroyed. In Fairmont (Marion County), an apartment building collapsed, but no fatalities were reported there.
To help those impacted, the Red Cross has launched two service centers in Triadelphia:
- Triadelphia Town Hall, 4453 National Road
- Roney’s Point Church, 169 Dallas Pike
Both centers are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Saturday, offering direct support to flood victims.
“We’ve had a steady amount of people come in here today,” said Sharon Kesselring, Executive Director of the Red Cross of the Ohio River Valley, from the Triadelphia Town Hall location.
Immediate Help for Those in Need
With nearly 50 Red Cross volunteers and staff deployed across both counties, the organization is providing emergency relief such as food, clothing, shelter, and financial aid.
Kesselring emphasized that the amount of assistance depends on the size and needs of each household. “We’re getting it done,” she said.
The Red Cross teams are also conducting on-site damage assessments to determine whether homes were severely impacted or destroyed. Those with major damage are eligible for further recovery support, including:
- Financial assistance
- Recovery planning
- Referrals to community partners
Residents who need help must visit one of the service centers during open hours with proof of identity and residency, such as a government-issued ID and a recent utility bill.
For those unable to visit in person, appointments can be scheduled by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
More Help Coming
As word spreads about the centers, Kesselring expects even more residents to come forward. “We anticipate more traffic in the coming days as people hear about the assistance available,” she said.
The Red Cross was one of the first agencies on the ground after the flash floods, offering shelter, meals, and emergency supplies in the immediate aftermath. Now, they’re focused on helping families begin the difficult process of rebuilding.
