Creativity will take center stage this Saturday at the Parkersburg Art Center, where words and visuals unite in a unique celebration of expression. In honor of National Poetry Month, the center will host its second annual Poetry and Art event at 6 p.m. in the Main Gallery — and it’s completely free and open to the public.
Where Words Inspire Brushstrokes
The event showcases an inspiring collaboration between 15 local poets and 22 local artists, who together have crafted one-of-a-kind pieces that blend poetry and visual art. Each poet submitted an original poem, which was then selected by an artist to serve as inspiration for a new visual creation. The results? A stunning array of collaborative masterpieces that will be unveiled for the first time during Saturday’s event.
Meet the Creative Minds
Attendees will enjoy live poetry readings and art presentations by the participating poets and artists. Among the poets featured are Sherrell Wigal, Randi Ward, Wendy McVicker, and Bonnie Proudfoot, while visual artists include Eryn Gray, Allison Ruth, Tina Allen, and Angela O’Curran, to name just a few.
In some cases, creators wore both hats — like Tracy Love and Sara Golden — contributing as both poets and visual artists.
A Community Celebration
Thanks to support from West Virginia Central Credit Union and event sponsor Farnsworth Law Office, this free gathering promises an evening of inspiration, culture, and connection. Attendees can also enjoy light snacks and refreshments while mingling with the creative minds behind the pieces.
Beyond the Event
Can’t make it Saturday night? You’ll still have a chance to enjoy the collaborative works. Starting in early May, the full collection of poems and visual art will be displayed in the Art Center’s Reception Gallery, offering visitors an extended look at the beauty born from blending sight and sound.
