Person injured, Cabell County schools temporarily shut down following shooting

UPDATE (5:27 p.m. on March 19, 2025) – The Huntington Police Department has released new details about the shooting that occurred in Huntington on Wednesday.

According to Huntington Police Chief Phil Watkins, the incident took place in the 2000 block of 11th Avenue. However, due to conflicting information from the shooting victim’s 911 call, first responders initially believed the location to be near the 200 block, close to Southside Elementary and Huntington Middle School.

“It was quickly determined that this was a mistake, and officers were redirected to the correct location. There was no incident or threat near the schools,” Chief Watkins clarified.

The victim, a male, sustained a gunshot wound to the right arm. His injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

The case is currently under investigation by Huntington Police Detectives and Forensic Investigators.
