The GFWC Parkersburg Woman’s Club held its final general meeting of the season in June at the Parkersburg Country Club, closing out a year filled with service, celebration, and community impact. The next meeting is set for September 9, 2025.

The event featured a moving performance by Jack “Moon” King, a self-proclaimed Catholic missionary and college student. King sang and played guitar while raising awareness for the homeless population in Wood County.

His personal mission is to engage with individuals experiencing homelessness, learn their stories, and advocate for better housing solutions. Donations to support his cause can be sent to the Parkersburg Community Foundation with the note “Moon King Fund for Humanity.”

In a highlight of the evening, Scholarship Chair Marie Held announced two deserving recipients of the club’s 2025 scholarships for Parkersburg High School graduates. McKenna Jo Greer will receive a $3,500 scholarship to attend West Virginia University, where she plans to study human nutrition and foods.

Katelyn Ryleigh King was awarded $1,550 and will pursue a degree in forensic pathology at Washington State College of Ohio. These scholarships were made possible by generous community contributions and the club’s fundraising efforts.

Membership Chair Patty Miser also recognized members who completed their first year of volunteer service. Honored were: Jennifer Allen, Kaylie Allen, Mackenzie Bango, Joyce Boso, Vickie Davis, Laura Foster, Beth Imperio, Stacy DeCicco, Annette Farenbacher, Paula Leidy, and Cathy Adkins Rauh. In addition, Susan Gardner was acknowledged for her 10 years of dedicated membership.

The club took a moment to remember two cherished members who passed away this year. Sheila Aldsworth and Linda Taylor led a touching memorial tribute for Kathy Pollack, who passed on September 28, 2024, and Jenny Blair, who passed on January 6, 2025.

Both women were deeply committed to their families, careers in education, and the club’s mission. The poem “A Life Well Lived” was shared in their honor.

With meetings set to resume in the fall, the Parkersburg Woman’s Club extends an open invitation to women interested in education, friendship, and serving the community.
