Seton La Salle 2027 cornerback Nelson Coleman has been on West Virginia’s radar for a while, holding a scholarship offer from the Mountaineers since the previous coaching staff. However, it was his recent visit to Morgantown that gave him a deeper insight into how Rich Rodriguez is running the program.
Standing at 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, Coleman had a chance to experience the West Virginia football program firsthand, and he was impressed by how welcoming the coaching staff was during his visit.
“They make sure everyone with you is comfortable and enjoying themselves,” Coleman said, reflecting on the hospitality he received while on campus.
During his visit, Coleman got to watch the Gold-Blue Showcase and also spent time getting to know the players and alumni in attendance, including former WVU cornerback Adam Jones.
“That was a great surprise, I didn’t expect that,” Coleman shared, thrilled by the unexpected encounter.
Rod West, the Mountaineers’ cornerbacks coach, is the lead recruiter for Coleman, and the two had the chance to connect during the visit. Coleman expressed his excitement about continuing to build a relationship with Coach West moving forward.
“We are definitely going to be talking more often and building a relationship,” Coleman said. “I’m really looking forward to that.”
West Virginia is recruiting Coleman as a versatile defensive back, capable of playing in multiple spots within their defensive scheme. The visit also gave Coleman a chance to observe the spring game, where he was impressed with the energy and enthusiasm displayed by both the coaches and players.
As for his future plans, Coleman intends to make another visit to West Virginia, although he is still figuring out when that will be. One event he is eager to attend is the Backyard Brawl, a game he’s excited to experience.
“That would be one I would love to see,” Coleman said, already looking ahead to a possible future in Morgantown.
With his recruitment still in the early stages, Coleman’s visit to West Virginia is just one step in what is sure to be an exciting process for the talented defensive back.
