West Virginia men’s basketball just got a boost for the upcoming season — Chance Moore has officially been cleared by the NCAA to play for the 2025-26 season.

Moore, a transfer from St. Bonaventure, had been waiting for a decision on a waiver for a fifth year of eligibility, and on Tuesday, the NCAA approved it. While he’ll be eligible to play this season, Moore will miss the first five regular-season games due to NCAA transfer rules.

Head coach Ross Hodge welcomed the news with enthusiasm.

“We are pleased that the NCAA approved the waiver for Chance to have his fifth season of eligibility,” Hodge said in a statement. “As I said when he signed, Chance has the ability, size, and physicality to impact both sides of the ball and help us win at a high level. We are thrilled with the ruling and look forward to Chance being a Mountaineer this season.”

Moore’s college basketball journey has taken him across multiple programs. The Brookhaven, Georgia native started his career at Arkansas in 2021-22, where he saw limited action in five games.

He then spent two seasons at Missouri State, becoming a consistent scorer, and most recently played at St. Bonaventure in 2024-25. There, he finished second on the team in scoring at 13 points per game and led the team with 6.5 rebounds per game.

Throughout his college career, Moore has averaged 43% shooting from the field, 30% from beyond the arc, and 62.6% at the free throw line.

With a mix of experience, size, and versatility, Moore adds depth and maturity to WVU’s backcourt — a valuable asset for a team in transition under Coach Hodge.

Although fans will have to wait a few games to see him in action, Moore’s eligibility is a big win for the Mountaineers heading into the new season.
