Mountwood Park’s ATV trails just got a permanent boost, thanks to a generous land donation. The Wood County Commission recently approved the transfer of 32.41 acres from a family trust to the park, ensuring continued access to the area for off-road riders.
In addition to the donation, the county also purchased another 11 acres across U.S. Route 50 for $15,000. While there are no immediate plans for this smaller section, it could offer future opportunities for park expansion.
County Clerk Joe Gonzales shared that the donor, originally from Wood County but no longer a resident, wished to remain anonymous.
“She just wants to help the community,” Gonzales said.
Wood County Parks Director Jeremy Cross noted that the donated land has served as the flat track area for ATV trails for the past decade under a lease agreement.
“Without the donation … we wouldn’t be able to have that section,” Cross said, highlighting its importance to the park’s ATV trail system.
This contribution secures a key part of Mountwood Park’s outdoor offerings, ensuring that ATV riders can continue to enjoy the trails for years to come.
