Exciting Summer Lineup of Youth Sports Camps and Tournaments in the Mid-Ohio Valley

The Mid-Ohio Valley is gearing up for a summer packed with fun, skill-building, and athletic competition for kids of all ages. From basketball and baseball camps to junior tennis tournaments and golf events, there’s something for every young athlete to enjoy this season.

Local Golfer Hits Hole-in-One

Parkersburg’s Mike Anthony had a memorable Sunday when he aced the 116-yard 18th hole at the Golf Club of West Virginia. Using a 9-iron, Anthony recorded his first-ever hole-in-one, a moment witnessed by Herb Nelson and Robin Varner.

WVU Baseball Camp Set for July

Young baseball enthusiasts can participate in the West Virginia University Baseball Camp scheduled for July 24 at The Dugout in Parkersburg. The camp runs from 4 to 7 p.m. and is open to children ages 5-12. It’s a great opportunity for young players to sharpen their baseball skills with the help of experienced coaches.

Junior Tennis Tournaments Scheduled

The Mid-Ohio Valley Tennis Association (MOVTA) has several exciting junior tennis events planned:

  • Summer Junior Tournament: July 26–27
  • Honey Festival Tournament: August 23–24
  • Middle School Mixed Doubles Tournament: September 20 (for team players, co-sponsored by MOVTA and Wood County Schools)
  • Rotary Championship Tournament: First weekend in November

These tournaments provide local youth with a competitive yet encouraging environment to grow their game.

Williamstown Offensive Skills Basketball Camp Returns

The 35th annual Williamstown Offensive Skills Basketball Camp will run from June 23–27 at Williamstown High School. The camp caters to grades K-5 in the morning session from 8 a.m. to noon, and grades 6–9 from 1–5 p.m. Young players will learn under the guidance of seasoned coaches and all-state players. The camp fee is $100.

Ohio River Basketball Camp Celebrates 38th Year

Ravenswood High School will host the 38th annual Ohio River Basketball Camp from June 9–12. This camp, open to boys and girls entering grades 3–8, runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily. With 36 counselors and 10 experienced coaches on staff, campers will participate in games, competitions, guest speaker sessions, and receive a T-shirt, basketball, and certificate of participation.

Arc of Mid-Ohio Valley Golf Scramble Rescheduled

The Arc of the Mid-Ohio Valley has moved its annual Golf Scramble to Saturday, June 21, at Woodridge Plantation Golf Course. Registration opens at 9 a.m., and the event starts with a shotgun launch at 10 a.m. The four-person mixed scramble is limited to 20 teams.

The $100 entry fee includes green fees, cart rental, lunch, and an awards reception. Individuals are also welcome and will be grouped into teams. Hole sponsorships are available for $175. For more information, contact Jonelle Merritt at 304-481-8049.

MOVTA Power Point Tennis Event on May 18

The next MOVTA Power Point Tennis event will be held Sunday, May 18, from 2–4 p.m. at the City Park tennis courts. Players are encouraged to bring their skill cards to be signed off by adult supervisors. New skill cards will also be available. Points earned can be used as “real dollars” for clinics, lessons, and pro shop purchases at Greenmont Racquet Club.

With such a wide variety of athletic opportunities available, the Mid-Ohio Valley is truly a hub for youth sports development this summer. Whether your child loves basketball, tennis, baseball, or golf, these camps and tournaments are the perfect way to build skills, make friends, and have a blast.
