LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas Rotary Club has reaffirmed its commitment to childhood literacy by making its 12th annual donation to Spread the Word Nevada, contributing $25,000 to support reading programs for underserved children.
This latest donation continues the club’s long-standing effort to improve literacy rates among Nevada’s youth. Since 2011, the Rotary Club has donated a total of $264,000 to the organization, helping to distribute books and promote reading initiatives.
Longtime club member Tom Thomas has played a key role in this effort, matching club grants dollar for dollar over the past seven years.
“For more than a decade, the Las Vegas Rotary Club has been dedicated to empowering young readers and fostering a love of learning,” said Kirk Alexander, president of the club. “We believe literacy is the foundation of success, and we are proud to continue supporting Spread the Word Nevada’s important work.”
In the 2023-24 fiscal year, the Las Vegas Rotary Club contributed a total of $271,000 to local and international organizations. Additionally, its Santa Clothes program raised $120,569 to support children in need.
The club’s charitable initiatives focus on food insecurity, youth education, and community service. Donations last year helped fund food relief efforts, grants to nonprofit organizations, UNLV scholarships, elementary school programs, and various youth initiatives, including TLC, RYLA, the Dan Stover Music Competition, and the 4-Way Speech Contest.
