2026 defensive back KeJiaun Johnson is quickly becoming a name to watch in the college football recruiting world — and now, West Virginia has officially joined the race.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound standout from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, Alabama, was recently offered a scholarship by the Mountaineers. Johnson is coming off a strong season where he totaled 68 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, and 2 interceptions, showcasing his athleticism and ability to play both cornerback and safety.
WVU Extends an Offer
Cornerbacks coach Rod West made contact with Johnson and wasted no time in extending the offer. The rising junior was thrilled.
“I was excited,” Johnson said. “I know guys like Tavon Austin and Pat White played there. Coach Rich Rodriguez just got hired from Jacksonville State, which is in my home state.”
West Virginia’s recent offer reflects Johnson’s growing reputation. He’s a three-star recruit according to Rivals.com, and college coaches have taken notice of his combination of speed, physicality, and versatility.
A Visit to Morgantown in the Works
Although he hasn’t visited West Virginia yet, Johnson said he is planning to make the trip to Morgantown either in the spring or summer. He’s eager to start building a relationship with the Mountaineers’ coaching staff and learn more about the program.
Other Offers Rolling In
West Virginia is not the only school eyeing Johnson. He’s already received offers from Ole Miss, South Carolina, Memphis, and several other programs. As his recruitment heats up, he’s narrowing down what matters most in a school.
Johnson says he’s looking for a program with a history of player development, a strong coaching staff, and elite facilities — especially in the areas of strength and conditioning, nutrition, and training.
Beyond Football
Off the field, Johnson is focused on academics. He plans to major in marketing or sports management, showing a clear vision for life beyond football.
As the Class of 2026 begins to take shape, KeJiaun Johnson is clearly on the radar of major programs across the country. With his size, athleticism, and football IQ, he’s a recruit that could make an impact at the next level — and West Virginia is hoping to be the school that helps him get there.
