Drivers across northern West Virginia are seeing some relief at the pump this week. According to the latest AAA East Central Gas Price Report, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the region has dropped by eight cents, bringing the current average to $3.008.

Among cities in the region, Huntington boasts the lowest price at $2.859, while Parkersburg follows closely with $2.918. Other cities report the following average prices:

  • Clarksburg: $3.000
  • Bridgeport: $3.037
  • Weirton: $3.044
  • Morgantown: $3.062
  • Martinsburg: $3.063
  • Wheeling: $3.077

The national average price is currently $3.12, down two cents from last week. Compared to this time last year, prices are about 32 cents lower. AAA credits this trend to a steady decline in crude oil prices and an oil market where supply is outpacing demand. This is the lowest average gas price for the month of June since 2021.

According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand fell significantly last week—from 9.45 million barrels per day to 8.26 million. At the same time, domestic gasoline supplies increased by over 5 million barrels, rising from 223.1 million to 228.3 million. Despite the higher supply, gasoline production decreased, averaging 9 million barrels per day.

Looking at the broader picture, the least expensive gas states in the U.S. are:

  • Mississippi: $2.64
  • Louisiana and Tennessee: $2.72
  • Alabama: $2.73
  • Oklahoma and Texas: $2.75
  • Arkansas: $2.76
  • South Carolina: $2.77
  • Kentucky: $2.82
  • North Carolina: $2.83

Meanwhile, the most expensive states for gas include:

  • California: $4.73
  • Hawaii: $4.47
  • Washington: $4.38
  • Oregon: $3.99
  • Nevada: $3.84
  • Alaska: $3.65
  • Illinois: $3.36
  • Idaho: $3.31
  • Utah and Arizona: $3.30

With fuel prices continuing to fluctuate based on global supply and demand, experts suggest that drivers keep an eye on local trends and take advantage of lower prices while they last.
