Two uplifting stories recently unfolded in the Mid-Ohio Valley, showcasing the heart and spirit of our local community—one rooted in generosity and the other in educational excellence.
Belpre Residents Step Up for Spring Food Drive
Local residents showed overwhelming support last month when the Belpre Area Veterans hosted a spring food drive to benefit Belpre Area Ministries. The response was more than heartening—it was powerful.
Thanks to the outpouring of food and cash donations, volunteers collected enough supplies to fill several totes for the community pantry. And just in time, too.
“This is great this time of year,” said Judy Frum, co-vice president of the Belpre Area Ministries board. “We appreciate these guys.”
The pantry currently serves an average of 125 families each month, up from 105 last year. With demand rising steadily, the need for food, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and monetary support remains critical. But this recent drive proves just how caring and responsive the Belpre community truly is.
“We greatly appreciate our community’s generosity and particularly in helping those in need,” said Eric Clark, president of the Belpre Area Veterans. We couldn’t agree more—thank you, Belpre!
Blennerhassett Educator Honored for Teaching Excellence
In more great news, Holmes Marty, a teacher at Blennerhassett Middle School, has been awarded the 2025 Outstanding Industry Educator Award by Explore: The New Manufacturing.
Marty’s dedication to student success shines through his innovative approach to teaching STEM and broadcasting for seventh and eighth graders, as well as social studies for sixth graders. He actively connects his students with real-world learning opportunities, including the Explore Student Video Contest, in collaboration with local manufacturers.
“Holmes Marty is an exceptional champion for his students,” said Monica Cross, executive director of the Explore program. “We are honored to recognize Holmes’ unwavering dedication.”
His work inspires students and prepares them for meaningful futures in manufacturing careers and beyond. Teachers like Marty are invaluable assets to Wood County schools, and his recognition is well deserved.
From feeding families in need to inspiring the next generation, these high points from our valley prove that compassion and commitment are alive and well in our community.
