An Anmoore man is facing serious charges following a deadly crash in Doddridge County that claimed the life of a woman earlier this week.
According to authorities, the incident occurred late Saturday night along U.S. Route 50 when the suspect, identified as 37-year-old James Carter, allegedly lost control of his vehicle while under the influence. His car reportedly crossed the center line and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.
The victim, a 42-year-old woman from West Union, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
DUI Charge Follows Tragic Collision
Investigators at the scene administered field sobriety tests and later confirmed Carter’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit. He was arrested and charged with DUI causing death — a felony offense in West Virginia.
Carter was transported to North Central Regional Jail and is being held without bond pending his preliminary hearing.
The accident remains under investigation by the Doddridge County Sheriff’s Department and the West Virginia State Police. Additional charges may be filed as the case develops.

Local residents expressed shock and sorrow over the fatal crash, with many calling for stricter enforcement of DUI laws and better public awareness around drunk driving. A roadside memorial has already been set up near the crash site, where friends and family members have been leaving flowers and candles.
Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the accident or has dashcam footage to come forward as the investigation continues.
