A new Almost Heaven swing has been installed at Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley, West Virginia, offering visitors another picture-perfect spot to relax and soak in the state’s natural beauty.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Thursday, drawing both state and local leaders to mark the occasion. Among those in attendance were Agriculture Commissioner Kent Leonhardt and Holli Vanater, director of Cedar Lakes.
This scenic addition is part of a broader project by the West Virginia Division of Tourism, which has been placing these signature swings throughout the state. The goal? To encourage residents and tourists alike to explore West Virginia’s most stunning landscapes—and snap a few unforgettable photos along the way.
The Ripley installation was made possible through a partnership between the Ripley Convention and Visitors Bureau, West Virginia Tourism, and Cedar Lakes Conference Center. Carter Lumber of Ripley provided the materials needed to bring the swing to life.
Adding to the excitement, the unveiling closely aligned with West Virginia Day, celebrated on June 20, which commemorates the state’s founding in 1863. Brenda Mobley, Executive Director of the Visitors Bureau, encouraged everyone to celebrate by sharing photos on social media using the hashtag #AlmostHeaven.
The Cedar Lakes swing is just one of many new additions. In fact, at least five other swings were installed across the state in the past week alone.
These include:
- Big Ditch Lake in Webster County near Cowen
- 4-H Camp Pioneer in Randolph County
- Miracle Mountain Wilderness Park in McDowell County
- Tater Hill Overlook in Wyoming County
- Drawdy Falls in Boone County
Started under the leadership of former Governor Jim Justice, the Almost Heaven swing initiative continues to grow, giving residents and visitors countless ways to experience the magic of the Mountain State.
Other swings already in place can be found at Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, Sportsman’s Park in Elizabeth, and Tu-Endie-Wei State Park in Point Pleasant.
Whether you’re a local or a traveler just passing through, these swings offer the perfect way to sit back, relax, and take in the best views West Virginia has to offer. Don’t forget to grab a photo and share your moment of peace under the hashtag #AlmostHeaven.
