A man from Clay County has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder following a double homicide investigation in Ivydale.

Authorities identified the suspect as 58-year-old Michael Wayne Adkins of Duck. The investigation began after the West Virginia State Police were informed on Thursday, April 3, 2025, about two deceased individuals at a residence in Clay County.

The victims were identified as 54-year-old Brenda Lee Dennis of Ivydale and 38-year-old Richard Lee Bishop of Maysel. Concerned family members had contacted law enforcement after being unable to reach either of them. Troopers arrived at the scene and discovered both had died from apparent gunshot wounds.

Suspect in Custody as Investigation Continues

Following initial inquiries, Adkins—who reportedly had a past relationship with Dennis—was identified as a suspect. He was subsequently arrested and is currently being held at Central Regional Jail, awaiting arraignment in Clay County.
