The No. 1 Marshall University men’s soccer team (10-0, 3-0 Sun Belt) returns to Hoops Family Field on Saturday after two matches on the road to face the Georgia State Panthers (4-3-4, 1-1-1 Sun Belt). First kick is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

PRE-MATCH NOTES

  • The Herd extended its winning steak to a program-best 10 matches in a 3-1 road victory at Georgia Southern on Saturday.
  • MU trailed for the first time all season, but tallied three unanswered goals in the win. Adam Aoumaich and Morris Duggan tallied penalty kicks with Pablo Simon scoring the game-winner on an assist from Aoumaich.
  • MU is the last team in the country with a perfect winning percentage having no ties or losses in its first eight matches of the season.
  • In the Herd’s last 16 contests, it has given up just seven goals, going 13-2-1 during that stretch.
  • Matthew Bell is having quite the sophomore campaign. The Kingston, Jamaica, is 11th in the country with 18 points on six goals, tied for third in the conference, and six assists, second in the SBC.
  • Marco Silva has put together quite the redshirt freshman campaign. He sits tow points behind Bell at 16, ranking 23rd in the nation, and is tied for 17th in Division I men’s soccer with seven goals.
  • Gabriel Perrotta has recorded the victory in goal in all 10 of MU’s contests this season with 5.5 shutouts and the best save percentage (.852) and best goals against average in the conference (.403). His GAA ranks fourth in the country with his save percentage ranking fifth.
  • The Herd leads the country in goal differential (26) and points (89), is tied for first in total goals with Clemson at 30, ranks second in scoring offense (3.00 goals per game), and is third in assists (29).

ABOUT THE PANTHERS

  • Georgia State fell at then-ranked No. 4 West Virginia on Saturday 4-3 before taking its contest at Mercer 2-1 on Wednesday.
  • The Panthers average a conference-best 6.5 corner kicks per match.
  • Goalkeeper Josh Hangi has made 41 saves this season, leading the conference and ranking 17th in the nation.
