West Virginia basketball just received a big boost ahead of the upcoming season. Chance Moore, a transfer guard from St. Bonaventure, has officially been granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA, head coach Ross Hodge announced Tuesday evening.
“We are pleased that the NCAA approved the waiver for Chance to have his fifth season of eligibility,” Hodge said in a statement. “As I said when he signed, Chance has the ability, size and physicality to impact both sides of the ball and impact winning at a high level. We are thrilled with the ruling and look forward to Chance being a Mountaineer this season.”
Moore is expected to play a key role for the Mountaineers this season, especially after his strong showing at St. Bonaventure. He averaged 13 points per game, making him the team’s second-leading scorer, while leading the Bonnies with 6.5 rebounds per game.
A Proven Performer Across Multiple Programs
Before joining St. Bonaventure, Moore’s journey took him through several top programs. Out of high school, he was a heavily recruited four-star talent with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, and Wake Forest, among others. He ultimately committed to Arkansas, but saw limited playing time during his stint with the Razorbacks.
Looking for a better opportunity, Moore transferred to Missouri State, where he averaged 10.7 points per game over two seasons and started to show his true potential.
Across his college career, Moore has posted shooting percentages of 43% from the field, 30% from beyond the arc, and 62.6% at the free-throw line. His combination of size, athleticism, and experience makes him a valuable two-way player capable of contributing on both ends of the floor.
A Welcome Addition for WVU
With one year of eligibility left, Moore brings leadership and depth to a Mountaineer squad looking to make noise in the Big 12. His versatility and experience at the D1 level are expected to be key assets in Ross Hodge’s system.
This eligibility news marks a major win for West Virginia, as Moore will now officially suit up in Morgantown for the 2024–25 season.
