Parkersburg Art Center Celebrates Creativity in Later Life with New Exhibit

The Parkersburg Art Center is inviting the community to a special evening this Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. for the opening reception of its latest exhibit, Art Is Life/Life Is Art. This unique showcase celebrates the creativity and talent of artists aged 55 and older.

The featured works come from participants in a two-part, 12-session art series led by local artist and longtime educator Virginia Killian. Thanks to support from the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History, this program gave seniors the opportunity to explore various art forms while fostering connection and confidence in the studio.

“This class has introduced—or reintroduced—people to the joy of making art. Every single student created something they never thought they could,” Killian said.

At the reception, visitors can meet the artists, hear their stories, and enjoy a display that proves artistic inspiration has no age limit. The event will include appetizers and a cash bar and is free and open to the public.

The celebration is also supported by the Ausenheimer Fund for Senior Arts through Artsbridge.

“This exhibit is so much fun and the perfect show to have in our Main and Whitlatch Galleries leading up to our summer fundraiser,” said PAC Artistic Director Abby Hayhurst. Art Is Life/Life Is Art will remain on display through Saturday, July 12—the same day as the Parkersburg Art Center’s summer “Tastes and Tunes” event.

The galleries are open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is always free, thanks to the generous sponsorship of WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center.

Don’t miss this inspiring celebration of creativity, community, and the lifelong power of art.
