With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Sidney “Sid” J. Mitchell, 79, of Fort Myers, Florida, who passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025.

A beloved husband, devoted father and grandfather, cherished friend, and proud dog dad, Sid brought warmth, laughter, and love to every corner of his life.

Born May 13, 1946, in Ashland, Ohio, Sid was the son of Richard J. and Jacqueline A. Mitchell (née Ball). He grew up in Warren, Ohio, graduating from Warren G. Harding High School. He later earned a business degree from Ashland University and proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Sid built a successful career, retiring from General Electric/GE Plastics in Washington, West Virginia, after 25 years. He later served as Vice President of Manufacturing at Yuasa Exide in Reading, Pennsylvania. Eventually, he returned to Parkersburg, West Virginia, where he launched and operated his own executive recruiting firm.

Sid is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Eleanor “Ellie” Mitchell (née Jameson), and his children: Sarah Garry (Mike) of Pinehurst, North Carolina; Lisa Reinke (Mike) of Moyock, North Carolina; Richard Mitchell of Kentucky; and stepson Brian Conrad of Columbus, Ohio.

He was the proud grandfather of Caragh, Aly, and Ryan Garry; and Hailee, Ashley, Michael, and Caiden Reinke. Sid is also survived by his sister, Nedra Atkins-Stahl (Jeff) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; his cousin, Wade Tolleson of South Euclid, Ohio; sister- and brother-in-law René and Dave Elliott of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; niece Michelle Frederick of Parkersburg, West Virginia; and nephews David Elliott of San Diego, Craig Elliott of Petroleum, and Mitch Atkins of Pataskala, Ohio. And of course, his loyal canine companion, Brewster, was always by his side.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his aunt and uncle Ellen and Chuck Tolleson, brothers-in-law Bill Atkins and Don Jameson, and his in-laws Martin and Roberta Jameson.

Sid had a gift for making life feel like a celebration. He loved cooking and hosting gatherings—often after a golf match—where stories, laughter, music, and memories flowed late into the night. His camera always in hand, he captured countless family holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, filling them with warmth, wit, and togetherness.

A lifelong fan of Ohio State football, Sid also cheered passionately for the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. But his greatest love was the game of golf. He was a proud member of Olde Hickory Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers and a longtime member of the Parkersburg Country Club.

Sid’s love for his family and friends was boundless. He was the kind of person who showed up—offering a smile, a kind word, or just a listening ear when it was needed most. His faith, charm, sense of humor, and joy for life left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

He will be remembered as a man of deep loyalty, compassion, style, and strength—and he will be deeply missed.
