Join artist Sassa Wilkes at the Turret Gallery at West Edge Factory for a Studio Sale! This event is from 6-9pm on Thursday, September 21.
There will be around eighty original Badass Women oil paintings on display and/or for sale, as well as some older works – some never shown in a gallery before. There will also be small, very affordable drawing/painting studies, as well as discounted prints.
Come meet the artist and enjoy good company and refreshments.
A portion of the proceeds of this sale will benefit future community art programming at West Edge Factory.
Sassa Wilkes is a trans, queer, Appalachian who recently finished a two year commitment as the first visual artist-in-residence at West Edge Factory where he painted murals and lead workshops for the community. “I’m excited for the next phase of my work, which will include educational portraiture for a new West Virginia Literary Hall of Recognition, as well as personal studio work that aims to challenge and expand the cultural understanding of gender in Appalachia. As part of this work, I regularly lead open studio art-making sessions for members of the trans community, where we can safely and creatively explore ideas about gender while spending much-needed time in community.”
