Alchemy Theatre moved into their new home earlier this year at the Geneva Kent Center For The Arts. This community theatre company has a busy calendar offering semester style acting classes for youth and adults. Alchemy Theatre has several upcoming shows: The Book Women (September 8,9,10), Making God Laugh (October 6-15th), and A Cozy Finale (December 8-17th). This group has been putting on shows together since 2018 with a wide range of entertainment genres including cabarets, various Shakespeare classics, musicals, holiday specials, New Works writing showcases, period dramas, beloved comedies, and more.
The Book Women, an Alchemy Theatre children’s production is directed by Cindy Westbrook. This play was written by Rachel Bublitz, “In the midst of the Great Depression, in a community crushed by the collapse of coal, and isolated by the very mountains they call home, a group of determined librarians take to their horses to reach the people of Eastern Kentucky. With a dedication equal to the US Postal Service, these “Book Women” deliver more than the books and magazines they carry in their saddlebags. They bring hope.”
