Meet scheduled for Friday, September 15 at Kennedy YMCA Center

The Marshall University cross country teams will be hosting a meet in 2023. It will be the first time since the 1989 season where the Thundering Herd have a cross country invite at home.

The Thundering Herd Invitational will take place on Friday, September 15 from the Marshall University Cross Country Course at the YMCA Kennedy Center Complex in Huntington.

The Men’s 8K race will be at 5:30 p.m. with the Women’s 6K race to follow at approximately 6:15 p.m.

“We’re really excited to host the Thundering Herd Invitational,” Marshall Head Cross Country Coach Caleb Bowen said. “Marshall has not hosted a cross country meet in over 30 years. It will be great to have our community support our teams without the long drive. It will be a great course, flat and fast which we appreciate. The meet will be spectator friendly, with around eight teams which is a good size for the first meet back after many years. We are looking forward to a great event!”

“Having the opportunity to finally race a cross country meet at home is definitely exciting!” Marshall senior Abby Herring said. “Traveling to meets with the team is always fun, but being supported locally by Marshall fans and family is something that is hard to have hours away. Our distance team has worked really hard this summer and I’m excited to see how we all do running on our very own home course!”
