Despite receiving non-profit grants and city approved re-development funding, the situation at the landmark 13 story Prichard Hotel remains grim. Recent photos show exposure to the elements with some windows boarded up and others missing, graffiti and vandalism. These eyesores and a group of unhoused people now dominate the visual appearance of the once proud Prichard Hotel site.

The Prichard Hotel was built in 1926 with 300 rooms. It was in operation as a hotel until 1970 when it was converted into apartments and office spaces. In 2007 the Prichard Hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places but it closed down operations in 2015 due to building code violations.
